Tokenisation

Exchange raw card details for a reusable token, so you can charge a customer again without re-collecting or storing the PAN.

A token on its own doesn't define how it gets used. Once a card is tokenised, the same token can be charged in different ways depending on who's initiating the payment and when — see the use cases below.
